Are you kidding me? Glider destroying WoW? First of all, players aren't going to quit WoW once they level one character to 80. So the whole Glider is costing Blizzard $100 per glider user is crazy, not to mention stupid. If Blizzard wants to keep their players, make the game more interesting. Grinding for a week to get from 78 to 80 is insane. I'd get bored and give up on it and use a bot too. That's Blizzard's fault, not Glider's, or the player's.

Come up with something Blizzard, use those hundreds of millions of dollars you're getting each month and put a little more effort on putting something back into the game to keep people interested and attract new players. ($15.99/month x 10 million+ users) = $160+ million a MONTH!) Come on people, use some common sense, who's giving who the shaft here?

If people are stupid enough to pay real money for the stuff other people have, so what? What's the problem? I got two words for Blizzard...Auction House. By including the auction house, they created their own economy and made the game gold worth something to other players, they can use it to obtain the items they want. To get what they want, they either have to either spend the time to find it themselves, or spend the time earning the gold. Since time is money, it's easier to pay someone $5 for an item and be done with it rather than grind for hours and hours to collect enough gold for it. Thus Blizzard, you did that to yourself.

Last time I looked, it was a free economy, both in the real world and in WoW. Money talks Blizzard, and obviously you know exactly what I'm talking about since you are making $160+ million a month from of an online game and that's not including retail game sales or T-shirts and hats and stuff. And now you're all concerned and pissed off about John Doe making a few hundred thousand selling a third party program? How greedy and naive can one company get? As soon as I get done writing this, I'm cancelling my subscription and going to the private servers.

Like so many have stated before me (lol) i dont understand what the big deal is...didnt they say like 100000 people used it in 2008...why does it matter so much? Like Doug said if we get rid of botters every BoE item will disappear because the only reason people have those items is from botting for 302587250hours while they do things that are actually worth-while in real life....Give MDY a break Blizz....

if ur smart enough to beat the system i say go for it...

Wonderfully stated.
A pity that capitalism still reigns and we have sadistic, fearful, unenlightend morons who control the world we exist in.
Soon enough, friend, that world will come crashing down on them by the very people they seek to subvert:
Us.

well said, sikk ;]

watch the bots get shut down, and then every item on the AH effectively double in cost, because there will no longer be any kind of catalyst in the market.

You are obviously not a lawyer, nor experienced debater. If you are going to "flame" people for wanting to skip needless hours grinding in a game they pay a monthly fee to play... You're an retard.

Look here stupid, for those of us out here in the real world, that have real jobs, that require real school, it can be hard to deal with the hour requirements of a silly ass game like WoW. Not everyone out there is a 12 year middle school drop out, who's parents don't mind paying their sub.
Or early/mid twenties idiot who quit their job, and winds up burring themselves in the "progression" of wow, until their very real life and problems overwhelm them. That same person, could have in fact, been motivated to go out and "fix" their problems, or at least better attend to them, if they didn't have to "grind" up gold to "get that mount", or "get the matts to make that weapon I need to get my dps up to 2k+ so people will let me run heroics with them".

The online environment provided by blizzard, is wholely unhealthy, and in fact distracting and destructive to the lives of players. But we live in a capitalistic society, that gratifies making money off the sorrow/misfortune of others, and helps prevent anyone from aiding that person in breaking the monotony of the cycle imposed by their proprietor of said dilemma.
So productive people are in fact, rendered unproductive, by Blizzards so called "game". And in fact should be paying out damages to any "wow'er" that can prove misfortunes caused or worsened by Blizzard Entertainment. As well, additional damages should be paid to those who sought to lessen the impact of the game by purchasing this form of "digital methadone" if you will, and was accordingly punished by removal of access to what should be THEIR "intellectual property", bought and paid for in every extension of the game, and maintained through a monthly upkeep charge.
Blizzard I believe are the ones breaking the law there. But it is a moral law, one that idiots like you don't care about. It is called the "golden law", or " golden rule" in some circles. The baseline of it, is that, you shouldn't be a dick, it can come back to bite you later on.
In the same way the idea of your ram making a copy of software suitable for DMCA guidelines, was a malicious and deceitful twisting of facts, that will come back to bite them in the ass later on.
Namely when a class action lawsuit is filed against the US government (that may read something like this):

"For maliciously transplanting coding, that violates your civil rights, onto civilian computers, without the consent or knowledge of said users, and no reasonable justification. The major case point here, will be that, the government did, in fact, place software onto these computers. This can be proven in reference of the case of "Blizzard Entertainment V MDY" where it was ruled in the face of a dismissed trial, that by copying a program into the Random Access Memory modules of a computer; you are in fact, effectively making a solid copy of said program, making all entities involved responsible for the content and intent of said programs. And their effects on said computer, and user.
We the people move that information aquired illegally should be purged, restitution should be administered to all defendants who have been accused, imprisoned, fined, harassed, or otherwise disturbed by any member of the prosecution or plaintiffs ."

This is all silly, and it is the fact that people whine so much now days that this kind of crap happens. Grow up, be content with your lot, and keep your own mouth shut if you happen to see someone doing better, or finding an edge over you, because you are obviously too stupid, or lazy to keep up.

Even if Glider had said "don't use our bot in wow... *wink*wink*" that alone would not have precluded them from liability.

There's a pretty strong precedent from both Grockster and Napster that one must be somewhat proactive to prevent infringement by third parties.

The other thing from grockster, and also Sony (the case regarding the VCR) is that a product must have significant "non-infringing" usage for the producer to not be liable.

At least that's my understanding from Grockster.

If Glider had been some other product, not primarily designed to play a game while you sleep, then a disclaimer would have been more persuasive, but as it is, bot programs generally only have EULA infringing uses, so designing it for something else seems questionable.

But you're right about the fact that targeting wow with their product probably helped sales, but it is definitely a negative when it comes to this suit.

MDY made a crucial mistake. they marketed their product specifically to circumvent WoW.

If they marketed their product as a general tool and put a disclaimer that it is prohibited to use on Blizzard servers, then they would have been immuned to Blizzard's lawsuits.

When a man robs a bank at gunpoint, the gun manufacturer is not liable. When a counterfitter uses photoshop to create fake driver's licenses, adobe is not liable.

Huh Sounds like people hate grinding over and over. Perhaps the game designers need to create a game that is fun to play...and not have to grind so damn much. Money is earned not by how many hours you put into the game.

I hate bots because they force every1 to keep up by grinding more or getting buts themselves. grrrrrrrrr

@Corr/Jake/Addict/Nick:
There exist games that you can pay to get items/currency/levels/characters. There exist games that "level in your sleep" or otherwise allow you to skip part you might find boring. EVE is an example of a game with leveling in your sleep and COUNTLESS games allow you to buy items/currency directly from the game maker. These are features built into the software for those games.

This specific software (WoW) does not allow these things. I suggest if the "grind" is not fun to you and you don't like the game Blizzard wants to sell you a subscription to that you simply stop playing it.

Saying "I can't help but waste my life away farming because I'm an addict so software like this is needed" is not a viable nor valid stand to take. YOU are in control of turning on the game and/or paying for your subscription.

If you realize that somehow you are NOT in control I suggest you seek addiction counciling; there are numerous free services for this that the internet can help you find in a matter of moments.
